Day Nine: Holy Socks

This post is one in a series of posts called “Glimpses of God” which I am writing as part of the Write31Days blog challenge. You can find the other posts here: 31 Glimpses of God Blog Challenge (#write31days)

Yesterday’s glimpse was technically a “little thing,” but at the time it felt like a hug from God.

We were running late for school (no surprise there!), and had to be out the door in one minute to have any chance of making it on time. As I am herding children out the door (making sure they have their backpacks! 😉 see Day Two), my son asks, “where’s my jacket???”

Ugh….I had thrown it in the wash the night before and forgot to put it in the dryer before I left for Bible study! He wasn’t feeling well, and it is freezing in his classes, so he really wanted his jacket – which happens to be the only one that fits his constantly growing body.

As those of you who are prone to running late know, this was not the time for being rationale! “Just grab it from the washer and it will dry on the way to school!” (yep, there’s a great idea!)

He looked at me like I was speaking Yiddish, but he obeyed. “Wait! It’s in the dryer!” He was so relieved to find it had been dried. And I was dumbfounded. I hadn’t dried it, my husband had. Now, I love my husband dearly and he is absolutely amazing in so many ways, but laundry is not normally his thing. The fact he had heard the washer finish and put the jacket in the dryer was a miracle!

“Thank you Lord!”

Then as we are ten minutes away from home comes my daughter’s voice from the backseat, “Um…mommy, Bailey (our golden goat retriever) chewed the toe off my sock. I only have one good sock.”

Awesome. Super. Yay!

“What do I do?”

“Ugh! I don’t know….go sock-less today???”

“Mommy!”

“Ok, ok, let’s just pray and then we will figure out what to do, ok?”

I prayed; for a long time! We thanked God for always providing what we need and for being always faithful. We said amen and I told my daughter to look all around the backseat and see if she could find a random sock. However, we had just had the car washed so I knew the probability was close to zero.

While the probability was not great, our God was. Right there under her floor mat was a perfectly chew-free sock!!!

“God is pretty awesome mommy.”

“Yes, sweet pea. He certainly is!”

See you tomorrow,

Jen
