Day Two Verses: Psalm 37:3-4
*First pray and ask God to speak personally to you through His Word.
Verse 3:
1. Write It (Don’t paraphrase. While you may choose to only write a section of the verse, only write words from the verse…don’t add anything to the verse)
“Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:3-4
*A quick note about translations: sometimes you may find a verse hard to understand. This was the case for me with the end of verse 3. My NIV translation ended the verse with ….”enjoy safe pasture.” I didn’t quite get that, so I looked at a few different translations, and found both the ESV and KJV easier to understand. Some translations were written as a more word for word translation, while others translated concepts. Feel free to explore different translations when faced with a confusing passage.
2. Learn It (What are these verses teaching? Are they giving a command? Do you learn something about God? Several lessons are often drawn from the same verse. Let God speak directly to you. Write down what you learn.)
Verse 3 – I found two lessons:
1) In order to trust in God, I need to dwell in His presence and feed from His Word.
2) Trusting God on the inside leads to doing good on the outside.
Verse 4 – When my greatest delight and joy is God, then I will love and desire what He loves and desires.
3. Live It. (How can these verses change your life? What can you do differently because of the lesson they teach? Try to form your personal application as a question you ask yourself, or as a prayer. Let God speak personally to you and your situation. Write down your personal application.)
Verse 3 – Since I had two lessons, I also have two applications:
1) How can I dwell in God’s presence throughout the entire day and not just during my quiet time? (ideas: pray throughout the day, put post it notes around home/office with verses on them, listen to Christian radio/worship play list in car, talk about God with others)
2) What good is God calling me to do this week? (will keep pondering this)
Verse 4 – Am I delighting in something more than God? Is He my greatest delight? Are my desires His desires? (wow! that one is convicting! I will keep praying over this one and ask God to reveal the answer to me.)
God, thank you for Your Word. I long for you to be my greatest delight and to dwell in Your glorious Presence. Help me to trust in You, keep my eyes fixed on You, and not fret because of the evil that is allowed temporary victories. Help me to trust in Your total authority and be assured that You will one day wipe every trace of evil from this planet. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
Did you find a different lesson? If so, would you be willing to share it? I LOVE to see how God speaks to each of His children in a slightly different way.
See you tomorrow,
Jen
